Keynote Speakers

Badr Jafar
Theme:  Entrepreneurship 
Badr Jafar is Managing Director of the Crescent Group, and President of Crescent Petroleum, headquartered in the United Arab Emirates for over 40 years and with offices worldwide. Mr Jafar also serves as CEO of Crescent Enterprises, the Group’s non-energy division, and as Chairman of Gas Cities LLC, a joint venture between Crescent Petroleum and Dana Gas PJSC.

Haitham Desouky
Theme:  ITC
Haytham is a 25 year old Telecom and Electronics Engineer. His interest in science and animated films was evident throughout his childhood as he spent most of his time in his home workshop disassembling toys to analyse their parts. Haitham was the winner for the Stars of Science competition, 2012.

Dr. Mohamed Khater
Theme:  Entrepreneurship
Dr. Mohamed Khater holds a BSc degree in systems engineering and in biomedical engineering, an MSc in artificial intelligence applications in neuroscience, and a PhD in strategic management and leveraging of competences from the University of Cambridge. He has worked for a number of years with the United Nations Organization, and has been a consultant for several biomedical, software, and telecom companies.

Riad Kamal
Theme:  Entrepreneurship
Riad Kamal is the Founder, Executive Chairman of Arabtec Construction and CEO of Arabtec Holding, which operates out of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Doha, Karachi, Damascus, Cairo & St. Petersburg. Mr Kamal began his Civil Engineering and Construction career in London in 1966, following a year of design work he went on to work on construction projects in Jordan, The U.K. and Spain for Tarmac and Sir Robert McAlpine.

Emeritus Professor Salim T. S. Al-Hassani
Theme: Innovation
Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manchester since 1991. He worked in industry with directorships of many firms and held academic posts in the UK and overseas. He was awarded sizeable national and international research grants and published over 200 papers in international scientific journals and books.

Prof. Marwan K. Khraisheh
Professor Khraisheh is the founding Dean at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and a member of the MIT-Masdar Joint Executive Committee. He served as the Acting Founding Provost until June 2009. Professor Khraisheh received a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Jordan in 1990, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University in 1992 and 1996, respectively.

Dr. Isam Janajreh
is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Masdar Institute, received his Ph.D. (97) and Masters (92, 94) from Virginia Tech in Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) and Mechanical Engineering (ME). Specialized in solid/fluid interactions, turbulence modeling of Atmospheric Boundary Layer.

Prof. Borchard was appointed Vice President of the Section of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Geneva. In 2010, he was nominated as Fellow of the Swiss Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and in 2011 elected president of the Swiss Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

She is a candidate to receive an EMBA in Innovation and Business Creation from the Technical University of Munich (Germany). Mrs. Ledesma is a firm advocate of human creativity and is focused on innovative and actionable concepts and solutions that create value for society, as well as supporting entrepreneurs working toward these goals. Executive Director (CEO), Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC). Dr. Adnan has more than 20 years of international experience in the areas of wireless/telecomm R&D, innovations, business development, and services delivery. Before moving to Qatar in 2007, he worked for 10 years at AT&T Wireless in Seattle, USA where he served in a number of senior management positions covering product innovations, emerging technologies, and IP Management and Licensing.

Michael Mansour is the Director of Developer Platforms & Technologies at Microsoft Corp. He has over 20 years of background in Software IT, telecom and power generation. Michael regularly interacts with enterprises, IT start-ups and Microsoft partners in evangelizing Microsoft’s software programs and platforms, often through public speaking engagements. Prior to Microsoft, Michael worked in the US with three different start-up companies, two of which underwent acquisition with one in IPO.

  Ammar Aljamri
Ammar started his life with a BS.c. from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM); Dhahran-Saudi Arabia. He joined Ericsson in 2004, where he started working as a telecoms engineer. In 2006, Ammar was promoted to solutions and technology manager, then to account manager in 2009, and since 2010 he was appointed as Strategy & Business Innovation Manager, Middle East Region at Ericsson AB.
Hana A. Bilbeisi
Hana was born and raised in Amman, Jordan. She obtained her Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in 2005. She then continued her education to obtain a Master of Engineering degree in Computer Networks from McGill University in 2007. While working towards her MEng Hana worked as an intern for Cisco Systems in Ottawa-Canada, where she continued working in Development Testing for another year and a half.

Dr. Mohamed Gharib 
Dr. Gharib received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in 2011 and a B.S. and M.S degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Cairo University in 2002 and 2007, respectively. Currently he is holding the position of a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at Qatar University. He is working in a collaboration project between Qatar University and McMaster University in Canada to improve a passive vibration control device called Tuned Liquid Damper.
